Law Schools with the Most Job Placements in Virginia

The Top Law Schools for Placing Students in Jobs in the State of North Carolina

If you are considering law school with the goal of practicing in Virginia then this ranking might be helpful as you consider your options.  As with all rankings, it is important to read the results in context of what outside factors might be driving these numbers. For instance, the University of Virginia placed only 17% of its graduates in the state of Virginia.  This result is driven by a couple of factors. First, UVA places more attorneys in the both the jurisdictions of New York and the District of Columbia than in Virginia. Second, as a top ten law school, Virginia draws applications and students from all over the country and so its placements are likely less focused in the immediate area of the law school compared to other law schools in Virginia.

An aspiring attorney seeking to practice in Virginia, if given the choice, would certainly be better-served attending Virginia’s flagship law school, a top 10 program, than attending a much lower ranked law school based solely on the number of Virginia placements. That said, this ranking is still helpful in terms of determining what kind of connections a particular law school is likely to have within its alumni network in Virginia.  It should be noted that these numbers are based on the total employment of law graduates in Virginia and do not reflect the total number of attorney positions. The higher ranked law schools typically have a higher percentage of graduates hired as attorneys and so the 2015 U.S. News Ranking is included.
